Description
Before becoming a Celebrant I had a long and wonderful career as a professional hairdresser, running my own salon in Melbourne’s beautiful bayside areas Albert Park and St Kilda. Throughout this period, I heard endless stories from clients about their wedding day disasters, not their hair of course that was always on point and stunning! Clients would often say to me ‘if only my wedding planner, celebrant, worked with me like you do Steve, actually listened to what I want, then it would have been ok’
One day the penny, ok bobby pin, dropped, I thought it’s time for a career change and I know exactly what I want to do. I love working with people and am known to be a down to earth, people person and have always had the ability to put people at ease in even the most difficult and stressful situations. It was clear that with my experience and personality there was one career that was a natural fit, and after taking time out to study, I graduated and became a qualified Registered Civil Celebrant. My transformation from hair do, to I do, was complete.
The skills that I used in my former business have proved to be invaluable in my role as a celebrant - one has to be a good listener, posses the ability to understand clients needs, work harmoniously in a calm professional manner, problem solve, have the ability to work under pressure, be engaging and a good story teller. To have the opportunity to work in partnership with people during their most treasured life events is even more rewarding than I imagined. How lucky am I!
