Consumer Protection is the West Australian Government's agency providing information and advice to consumers, businesses, landlords and tenants about their rights and responsibilities.
We help consumers resolve disputes with shops and businesses; provide product safety advice; investigate complaints about unfair trading practices; and prosecute and name unscrupulous traders.
Don’t let wedding planning tie you in knots – know your consumer rights!
Your wedding can be one of the happiest days of your life but it may also make a big dent in your bank account.
Before you begin to buy products or book services for your big day, it’s important you know your consumer rights and responsibilities. Make sure you research the business you’re thinking of choosing – this will help prevent any hiccups from happening before or on your wedding day. But if things don’t go to plan, that’s when your consumer rights can be the best wedding assistant you could have.
Consumer Protection receives wedding-related complaints about things such as:
- Businesses closing down or not being able to contact traders.
- Refunds of bonds, deposits and payments.
- Suppliers taking money for things they can’t provide.
- Items not matching the description or the sample shown.
- Goods or services not being acceptable – poor quality or not done with due care and skill.
- Changes of mind.
For more info about your rights under Australian Consumer Law, contact Consumer Protection on 1300 304 054 or visit us at consumerprotection.wa.gov.au.
