It all depends on where your makeup artist is based and wher you want them to travel.  A good makeup artist should be transparent and upfront about all costs.

Faces Makeup & Hair is based in Sydney.  We do not charge a travel cost for jobs of over $400 within Sydney metropolitan.  However, if the job is in Central Coast or Blue Mountains for example, we charge a travel charge of approximately $180 per stylist.  Our pricing can be downloaded from our website: http://www.facesmakeupandhair.com.au/bridal

When choosing a bridal hairstyle, it is more important to consider what suits your face shape rather than what goes with your wedding gown. That said, if you would like your gown's neckline to show, consider an updo.

Always have a trial with your hairstylist beforehand to make sure both of you are on the same page.

There are pros and cons either way.  Generally speaking, you get a more personalised approach from an individual, but if you book with a company, you will have access to back up makeup artists in case one specific makeup artist falls ill or unable to attend due to unforeseeable circumstances.   At Faces Makeup and Hair we have striked that balance by maintaining a close-knit team of 7 stylists only.  You can specify the stylist you want for your wedding day (and your trial).  If you do not have a preference, we will allocate one to you and you will have the same stylist for the wedding day as well as for the trial.  (In any case we all have a similar style you won't be able to tell the difference between our stylists from our gallery photos!)

Hi Ruby - definitely!! You want to make sure that you love the colour and the coverage before you commit yourself to the real deal.

In addition, what would be really helpful is to arrange a trial makeup session with your professional makeup artist 2 days after you have had your spray tan done - in that case you can make sure that the colour of your foundation will blend flawlessly into your spray tan, and that the colour of the makeup will work with the spray tan colour of your choice.

Wondering how far out before the wedding is best, but also, would like to use the trial to help me choose my suppliers.

If you would like to use the trial to help you choose which supplier, then we would recommend asap.  The wedding industry is currently dealing with backlog from Covid and combining with staff shortage dates can be booked out very early.

If you have already decided which supplier to go with, then we generally recommend a trial 4-8 weeks prior to your wedding day.

Hi there. Wondering about emergency backup plans in the event my makeup artist is sick or is in an emergency on our wedding day. What contingency plans are in place? Do I need to pack my own makeup just in case?

Absolutely - all bridal makeup artists will provide travelling for their services; however the distance and fees they charge for traveling will depnend on individual makeup artists.

Very rougly speaking, our team charges approximately $1 - $1.5 per stylist for every km of travel once it is outside the metropolitan area.  However it also depends on the size of bridal party, timing of the day, etc., so a lot of variables.  It would be best to check with your makeup artist.

Should I get botox before my wedding day?
I'm considering this even though I've not had botox before. From a makeup perspective is botox a pro or con?

We always encuorage our brides to do what makes them feel confident themselves, and perhaps more so imporantly, what makes them feel like their authentic selves.

If botox is part of your self care routine, there is no reason stop doing it - as long as it is at least 2 weeks before the wedding day for any unexpected reactions to settle.

For the same reasons, we generally advise our brides against this procedure if it is done purely for the purpose of the wedding day.

We give extensive advice to our brides on how to prepare their skin for the wedding day so that they look radiant and confident on the wedding day.

Out of all the different curls, Hollywood curls actually can hold pretty well.  And, like all hairstyles, the longevity will depends on your hair texture and thickness.  More importantly, the right product and right equipment will help your hair style to last as long as possible.

From our real experience, Covid has changed the landscape of booking in this industry.

We used to receive enquiries up to 24 months out from the wedding days; however, now we are getting enquiries ranging from a few weeks out to about 15 months out.

Couples now do not want to plan a wedding that is too far away.  Therefore, unlike pre-covid, we are not always booked out every weekend.  That said, there are certain popular days that are completely booked out - but they are not the norm; rather, they are the exceptions.

If you have a particular makeup and hair artist whom you have in mind, it is still preferrable to secure their avaialbility as soon as possible.

If just about anyone will do, then you have options - and you can also book this closer to the wedding day than you used to.

As to trial - we recommend approximately 4-8 weeks before the wedding, so that your hair and skin tone settles and will be similar to that of the wedding day.

The cost of bridal makeup & hair varies a lot dependng on your city, the experience of your makeup artist and hair stylist.  Generally the cost for the bride is a bit more to reflect the fact that more time will be spent on her on the day so that every single detail is perfected.

Look for businesses that have transparent and open price lists, in that case you will not be caught by any hidden cost that you may not have budgeted for.

Hi there, I've been quoted around $900 for make up + eyelashes for myself and two bridesmaids and hair for us all plus a blow dry for my mum +$50 travel fee. The price a makeup artist charges will basically depend on their experience and reputation.  A bridal makeup can cost anything from $50 per person (this is your Avon lady down the road) to $500 per person (this is the celebrity makeup artist).

We are a multi-award winning business and as a price guide we currently charge:

$280 (incl. GST) for the bride's makeup and hair

$210 (incl. GST) for a bridesmaid or mother's makeup and hair

which you will find to be very reasonable for the quality of service we provide and the experience we have.

What is the best kind of lipstick to wear on your wedding day?
I'm not sure what kind of lipstick to wear, matte? Or liner all over? Or a specific brand that stays on?

Hi Kelly, from our extensive experience we would recommend using a combination of liner, lipstick and lipgloss (unless you want a completely matte finish, in which case you can skip the gloss). Each of these products has a different function - the liner will prevent the lip-colour from bleeding into any fine lines around the lips; lipstick provides the intensity of the colour that you want (which can be sheer or rich), and lipgloss provides beautiful dimensions to the lips which we found particularly nice in photography because of the way that it reflects light.

You generally only need to re-apply lipstick and lipgloss during the day. There are techniques that a professional makeup artist can do to make the lipstick stays longer so you do not have to re-apply too often.
